NEW OFFICE BUILDING FOR WESTLAKES SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY PARK

Work on the latest building at Westlakes - the two-storey Galemire Court commenced on 23rd February 2004 .  

Westlakes Properties Chief Executive, Tim Hirst , commented that he is delighted to have secured funding for the £2.6M project from the European Regional Development Fund, the Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) and the West Cumbria Development Fund.   Galemire Court has been designed by local consultancy DGP International and will offer accommodation for up to 150 staff in 2,000 square metres of high quality, flexible office accommodation equipped with the latest broadband communications technology.

Westlakes Science & Technology Park is the eighth largest science park in the country and is a designated regional Strategic Employment Site.   The Park is currently home to over 700 employees in 31 organisations, working from six main buildings set in a beautifully landscaped environment.

Stewart Swift, NWDA Area Manager for Cumbria , said:

"This flagship development will help to create growth opportunities for the existing nuclear related businesses at Westlakes, maximising the potential to attract inward investment to the area, as well as creating much-needed new job opportunities.   The Agency is very pleased to continue its support of the development of the Park, which aims to create an international centre of excellence here in Cumbria ."

Border Construction has been appointed as the main contractor for the creation of the latest building at Westlakes.   Completion is planned by the end of the year, with new tenants taking up residence early in 2005.
