NEW BUILDING TAKES SHAPE
Work is progressing well on the latest building to be constructed on the Westlakes Science & Technology Park near Whitehaven. The foundations and steel framework for the 23,000 sq. ft. Galemire Court are well advanced and the building remains on target for completion by the end of the year.
Westlakes Properties Chief Executive Officer, Tim Hirst , explained that the £2.6 million project had been jointly funded by West Cumbria Development Fund, North West Development Agency and European Regional Development Agency. The new building has been designed by local architect and engineers, DGP International , with advice from other consultants based on the Westlakes Science Park and is being built by Border Construction. Galemire Court has capacity for up to 200 staff and has been carefully designed for flexibility to accommodate either a number of small or a single large tenant organisation.
In 2002 Prime Minister Tony Blair opened the Park's last building Fleswick Court and this is now fully occupied. 2004 will see the completion of Galemire Court and the start of two other new buildings by Priority Sites Limited for British Nuclear Group.
At 134 acres Westlakes is the eighth largest Science Park in the UK and one of only two designated Strategic Employment Sites in Cumbria . Full occupation of these three new buildings will raise the number of people employed at Westlakes to more than 1300.
