ROCKET LAUNCHED FROM WESTLAKES - 6TH JULY

As a 'finale' to REACT's Annual Into Engineering week for local Year 12 students, Dave Tranter of UKRA (United Kingdom Rocketry Association) delivered a lecture on the engineering behind rocketry then launched a model rocket over the Westlakes Science & Technology Park!  The launch took place early afternoon on Friday, 6th July on Plateau 10.  Earlier in the day the students heard about the engineering behind Surface to Air Missiles from personnel based at RAF Spadeadam - however, Park residents will be pleased to hear that the RAF didn't launch any missiles from the Park!

Following on from last year's event which invited TV Personality Johnny Ball to give a talk at the Westlakes Graduate Centre, The REACT Foundation is holding their Annual Science & Engineering Show for all West Cumbrian Year 6 Primary students.  This year's event, titled 'Feel the Force' will be delivered by The London Science Museum Outreach Team.   The event will take place on 26th September at the Carnegie Theatre, Workington and 27th September at The Civic Hall, Whitehaven.  There will be three shows each day.  It is hoped that all Year 6 students from West Cumbria will come along.
